Urbandale, Iowa – There is something for every age during Urbandale’s fourth annual Fall for Urbandale festival to be held Friday night and Saturday, September 21 and 22nd. The band Final Mix kicks off the event Friday night at 5:30 p.m. Saturday begins with the Urbandale Caring Corps’ Harvest Breakfast at 8:00 a.m. and finishes up with the Jaycees Utoberfest beer garden and the Standing Hamptons performing at 5:30 p.m.
New to the Festival this year is a 12-foot by 6-foot mural of Urbandale by local artist Emily Main. Festival goers will be asked to lend a hand by painting the mural. Other new events include the Fire Department Chili Cook-off, a cribbage tournament and a fashion show during the Harvest Breakfast on Saturday morning.
If you haven’t seen Urbandale Diversity Committee’s Global Village yet, you really need to,” says Kris Winter, Festival Director. “This unique event includes a children’s Chinese dance troupe, an African singing group and a Brazilian dance troupe among others. A life-size Native American tee-pee is also part of the village. Kids will receive ‘passports’ to visit countries from around the world and receive prizes”
Birthday cake in honor of Urbandale’s 90th Anniversary will be served to the first 200 people at 1:00 on Saturday.
Most events will take place at Walker Johnston Park, 9000 Douglas Avenue in Urbandale. The Caring Corps Harvest Breakfast and Fashion Show on Saturday will be at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8640 Aurora Avenue. A live radio remote and prizes will be hosted by Amici Espresso at 3928 NW Urbandale Drive.
Sponsored by The Urbandale Community Action Council, the event will also include a Kid’s Zone with crafts, inflatables, games, tattoos, face painting, an Open Market, a dog safety presentation and local safety vehicles.
